Swiftwater Breathing Apparatus Recreational (SWBA-REC) is an online course to become an approved user of SWBA® for recreational paddling. 


Co-requisites:

  • Current river rescue certification (i.e. ACA, WRT, NZOIA River Rescue, SISORSC005 etc.)
  • Current certification to ISO 24801-1 or higher (supervised diver). This short course is are available from dive agencies worldwide, such as SSI and SDI.

The above must be uploaded as part of this course and be able to be publicly verified.

Target Audience:

This 90-minute online course is aimed at those who completed river rescue and basic SCUBA diver training to orientate them to the use of Swiftwater Breathing Apparatus (SWBA) for non-commercial recreational paddling (i.e. rafting, pack rafting, kayaking, sledging). This course is not suitable for public safety responders, who should our SWBA Operator/Specialist programme.

Students who only complete the online theory module and quiz (i.e. do not hold the co-requisites) are provided an e-SWBA-REC certificate which can be used for professional development or continuing education purposes.

Students in New Zealand should require completion of the NZ specific law course in addition to SWBA-REC user certification.

A digital certificate is issued upon completion of online learning, online examination, and verification of pre-requisite certifications.
